Amongst the many contests online are some pretty strange sweepstakes. These promotional events are designed to spread brand awareness — to get people talking about the company — and what better way to do that than by offering a bizarre prize?
Here are just a few of the stranger online sweepstakes giveaways that have been done before.
A Colonoscopy. – Healthcare can be pretty expensive. Luckily, CBS Cares offered a free colonoscopy as a grand prize in one of its sweepstakes. The promotion was done as a way to spread awareness of colorectal cancer prevention, and early screening. What’s odd though is that the prize wasn’t even necessarily the weirdest part of the promotion. What’s even weirder is that Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne were leading the promotion.
Butterflies. – If you like butterflies, then you may want to consider checking out AmazingButterflies.com, which offers a monthly drawing for a dozen of the beautiful, colorful bugs. However, it’s unclear how many of the insect actually make it to the destination alive, but the prize is nevertheless pretty cool.
Zombie Survival Kit. – You never know where you’ll be when the zombie apocalypse happens, which is why you have to be ready. Concordia University thought the same way, and so it had a contest in which the winning student could win a whole zombie survival kit that included a copy of The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead, a zombie repellent shirt, a Swiss Army backpack, a Louisville Slugger baseball bat, a flashlight, and a roll of duct tape.
No matter how weird the prize is, companies need to follow sweepstakes rules and regulations to make sure everything is perfectly legal. If they don’t, then they won’t be able to bequeath the strange gifts.
